Winston-Salem, NC (July 11, 2023) ‒ Novant Health is joining forces with NeuroFlow, a behavioral health infrastructure company, to support mental well-being for patients and Novant Health’s more than 36,000 team members. Novant Health is an integrated network of physician clinics, outpatient facilities and medical centers focused on bringing together world-class technology and clinicians to make the healthcare experience simple, convenient, and affordable, so patients can focus on getting better and staying healthy.
“Our partnership with NeuroFlow gives patients grappling with mental and behavioral health needs continuous access to a digital toolbox, and – most importantly – they can be monitored by a Novant Health physician who can provide additional support and intervention,” said Ashley Perrott, MD, senior physician executive for Novant Health’s Community Health & Wellness Institute. “One of the benefits of this technology is that we can stay connected with patients and monitor their progress between visits with their care team, which we hope will translate to improved patient experience and outcomes.”
Using NeuroFlow’s mobile technology, Novant Health patients diagnosed with depression will have 24/7 access to evidence-based digital mental health resources and support. Available for patients 13 and older, NeuroFlow includes features like well-being screenings, mood and sleep logs, educational content and journaling capabilities. These resources engage patients between visits with their providers, and real-time alerts are provided to clinicians when a patient may need additional support or be at risk for self-harm.
“The relationship between a patient and physician is critical and one of the best predictors of positive health outcomes as well as achieving and sustaining wellness,” said NeuroFlow Chief Medical Officer Tom Zaubler, MD. "Now more than ever organizations are using technology to enhance that relationship in-between visits to ensure patients are not left alone to manage their complex conditions. These capabilities are critical in scaling proven collaborative care models to better identify and efficiently serve patients with behavioral health needs."
In addition to the patient roll out, Novant Health team members will have access to NeuroFlow as a self-care management tool in order to reduce potential burnout and promote mental and emotional wellness. “Burnout in the healthcare industry is at an all-time high and it’s been a concentrated area of focus for Novant Health for some time now,” noted Thomas Jenike, MD, senior vice president and chief well-being officer for Novant Health. “We’ve made a commitment to expand the tools and resources available to our team members, and NeuroFlow is a promising, confidential self-care option that complements the in-person and peer support services we offer.”
The Duke Endowment makes this innovative partnership possible through generous grant funding. The program launched at select clinics in Charlotte and Winston-Salem, and there are plans to expand it to more mental health conditions, patients and team members in the coming year.
