WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Novant Health is introducing a new model for headache and migraine care through Novant Health Virtual Headache Care, a virtual specialty clinic that expands access to headache specialists and gives patients greater flexibility in how, when and where they receive care.
Novant Health Virtual Headache Care provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment for a range of neurological pain disorders, including chronic migraines, cluster headaches, tension-type headaches and other complex conditions. Services include preventive therapies, symptom-relief treatments, diagnostic imaging coordination and ongoing follow-up care.
Novant Health Virtual Headache Care will be staffed by Dr. Susie Platt and Dr. Megan Donnelly, with Dr. Platt serving as the lead physician. Together, the team brings extensive experience in neurology and headache medicine, providing comprehensive diagnosis, treatment and long-term management for patients living with migraines and other headache disorders.
“Migraines and chronic headaches can affect nearly every aspect of a person's life, from their ability to work and care for their family to simply enjoying time with loved ones,” Platt said. “By offering a virtual option, we're expanding access to specialized treatment and making it more convenient for patients to receive the remarkable care and support they need to find relief and get back to the things that matter most.”
Recent research found that more than 9 in 10 U.S. counties do not have a certified headache medicine specialist, making virtual care an important way to connect patients with expertise that may not be available in their area. Through virtual appointments, patients can receive the care they need without traveling for specialty services.
Many people manage headaches with over-the-counter medications for years before seeking specialized treatment. As Dr. Platt recently shared on Novant Health's Meaningful Medicine podcast, patients with frequent headaches or symptoms that are not responding to treatment may benefit from evaluation by a headache specialist.
Available to adults ages 18 and older, Novant Health Virtual Headache Care allows patients across North Carolina to connect with providers from a smartphone, tablet or computer. Appointments can be scheduled through MyChart or the Novant Health Virtual Care webpage.
