Novant Health is now the majority owner of and will operate two outpatient surgery centers in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The sites include Southeastern Spine Institute's Ambulatory Surgery Center, which has six surgery/procedure rooms, and Mount Pleasant Outpatient Surgery Center, which has two procedure rooms with a gastroenterology focus.

"Novant Health values our collaborative relationships with clinicians and we are excited about how this partnership will further develop our South Carolina footprint so patients can receive quality services in the right location."
More than half of surgeries in the United States are outpatient procedures that are typically performed in ambulatory surgery centers or hospital outpatient departments. Novant Health has a track record of offering personalized care while prioritizing patient safety and quality at its ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs). In 2023, five Novant Health ASCs were named a “Best Ambulatory Surgery Center,” by Money magazine, and only 28 centers nationwide qualified for that list. The magazine partnered with The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization that collects and publishes data on patient safety and quality, to compile the elite list.
Leapfrog also recognized several Novant Health ASCs with its prestigious 2023 Top Ambulatory Surgery Center award, which is based on excellence in quality standards.
Novant Health is growing its surgical presence in the region following the not-for-profit health system's recent acquisition of East Cooper Medical Center in Mount Pleasant, along with hospitals in Hilton Head and Hardeeville and other associated operations.
