What is robot-assisted surgery?

If surgery is recommended as part of your treatment plan, your surgeon may perform your procedure using robotic-assisted technology. Novant Health offers a variety of surgical technologies. Your surgeon will recommend the best procedure for you based on their experience and expertise for your particular condition.

Robotic surgery enables your surgeon to operate with smaller incisions and more precision, which can mean shorter recovery times and quality outcomes for you. While laparoscopic and robot-assisted surgeries are both minimally invasive techniques, robotic surgery is typically used for more complex surgeries.

While robotic surgery is not recommended for every surgical procedure it is commonly used for surgeries involving the heart, joints, gastrointestinal system, kidneys, spine, brain and reproductive system.
