CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Vizient Inc. has recognized two Novant Health hospitals as top performers in the 2023 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Ranking. Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center ranked No. 12 in the large, specialized complex care medical center cohort and Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center ranked No. 2 in the community hospital cohort.
“It is an honor to have two Novant Health hospitals in the Charlotte area be recognized as top performers in quality by Vizient, representing both the complex and community level care categories,” said Saad Ehtisham, DHA, senior vice president, Novant Health and president of Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center and Novant Health’s greater Charlotte market. “Our care teams consistently seek to innovate and develop best, safe practices to improve safety, quality and satisfaction so our patients and communities can thrive.”
Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center was one of 154 Vizient member hospitals evaluated in the large, specialized complex care medical center cohort. Such hospitals are required to perform a minimum of 75 combined cardiothoracic and neurosurgery cases and one of the additional qualifying metrics such as organ transplants, trauma cases or acute transfers in from another acute facility.
“I’m proud that our team’s commitment to providing safe, quality care in the Mint Hill community has been nationally recognized for the third year in a row,” said Joy Greear, president and chief operating officer, Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center. “Ranking second among community hospitals nationwide is a testament to the dedication and teamwork I have the privilege of witnessing every day as we work to create a healthier future for our community.”
Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center was one of 333 Vizient member hospitals evaluated in the community hospital cohort and recognized for continuously delivering high-quality care based on the Vizient Quality and Accountability Study, which has been conducted annually since 2005.
This year, 784 participating hospitals were segmented into four cohorts for the Vizient Quality and Accountability Ranking. The ranking measured performance on the quality of patient care in six domains: safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient centeredness and equity. The ranking factors in measures from the Vizient Clinical Data Base and includes performance data from the HCAHPS survey and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Healthcare Safety Network.
“Novant Health has demonstrated high level commitment to the continuous improvement that is necessary to succeed in today’s evolving healthcare environment,” said David Levine, group senior vice president, advanced analytics and data science for Vizient. “The annual ranking leverages a unique, comprehensive and timely metrics-based methodology to recognize hospitals that achieve results on key measures that define quality patient care and delivery.”
The Vizient Quality and Accountability Ranking helps participating hospitals and health systems understand their performance against their peers and identifies structures and processes associated with high performance in quality and safety across a broad spectrum of patient care activity. The recognition period is for work spanning July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023.
