Dr. Ankita Patel is a pediatrician at Novant Health Meadowlark Pediatrics in Winston-Salem. Here’s her answer.

At about four months, it’s OK to begin introducing a baby to highly allergic foods, like eggs, soy, dairy and peanut butter. This may decrease the chances for developing food allergies. If there is a family history of food allergy, particularly for the parent, it’s still recommended to start early so that the food allergy may be avoided altogether. In the past, the thinking was to wait to introduce highly allergic foods, but that has changed in light of recent studies.
