The Care You Need, Right Here in Your Community

For more than 60 years, New Hanover Regional Medical Center has been here for you and your families. We're not new to this community. This is home. And as Wilmington and coastal North Carolina grow faster than ever, we're carrying out a long-term plan to ensure you have healthcare resources when and where you need them.

Our plans build on the clinical expertise of our care teams, who already enable us to serve as a regional destination for healthcare.

Expert care for our growing region

Coastal North Carolina is one of the fastest-growing regions in the state. Families are moving here. People are putting down roots. And they need a health system that can keep up — one that can handle an emergency at 2 a.m., a difficult pregnancy, a cancer diagnosis and everything in between.
New Hanover Regional Medical Center is already southeastern North Carolina's most advanced hospital. We're expanding services across the region while strengthening care at New Hanover so more patients can get the care they need close to home.
Our goal is simple: Help our communities get care when and where they need it – today and for generations to come.

About the plans

To support our growing communities, Novant Health has applied to add 225 inpatient beds at New Hanover Regional Medical Center – so we can do more, treat more people and keep more people close to home.

This expansion will help:

  • Increase access to specialized care
  • Reduce wait times
  • Improve patient experience
  • Serve more patients across southeastern North Carolina

Ensuring the right care, in the right place, at the right time

We're expanding healthcare across southeastern North Carolina, including Scotts Hill Medical Center, a future hospital in Leland, Carolina Shores Emergency Department and additional surgery and emergency care locations.

When you need routine, urgent or emergency care, we want you to find it close to home. At the same time, we're growing services at New Hanover Regional Medical Center so more people can receive expert care for more complex needs without having to travel outside our region.

Building a long-term vision for you and your family

NHRMC has the physicians, the expertise and the commitment to ensure local, specialized care.

We're not starting from scratch. We're building on a foundation that's been growing for more than six decades. And we're just getting started.
