When you are receiving inpatient care at our facility, it will often be administered by a specialist known as a hospitalist.
What is a hospitalist?
A hospitalist is a hospital-based, internal medicine doctor who specializes in caring for hospitalized patients. These physicians bring an increased level of experience and training to ensure that you are well-cared-for in a comfortable environment.
Typically, your family doctor will have a hospitalist care for you while you are receiving inpatient treatment. Once treatment is complete, the hospitalist will help you transition back to your family doctor. If you do not have a primary care physician, or family doctor, the hospitalist can care for you during your stay. Our hospitalists serve you in a variety of ways, including:
-
Assessing and treating your medical condition throughout your stay
-
Coordinating your hospital care including diagnostic tests such as X-rays, blood tests or other procedures
-
Arranging specialty care including therapy or consults with other specialists
-
Transitioning your medical care back to your primary care physician who will resume responsibility after discharge
Once you are discharged from the hospital, the hospitalist can refer you to a primary care physician for further treatments.
