Home About us Newsroom Patient condition report

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act’s medical privacy regulations govern the use and release of a patient's personal health information.

In compliance with federal regulations, Novant Health, at its discretion, may release general information about a patient’s condition in response to a media request. However, no information will be provided without a patient’s first and last name or if the patient has opted out of the hospital phone directory. Additionally, Novant Health will not release information about behavioral health or substance abuse patients or those under the age of 18 without prior consent from the patient or the patient’s legal guardian. Novant Health’s policy also dictates that the permission of a patient’s next-of-kin or legal representative must be obtained before sharing information about a patient’s sudden, violent or accidental death, or death from natural causes.

If you are a member of the media inquiring about a patient’s condition, please contact 1-844-536-3288.
