When you receive inpatient care, our hospitalists will typically coordinate your treatments. These hospital-based doctors bring an increased level of experience and training to ensure all of your medical needs are being met.

What is a hospitalist?

A hospitalist is an internal medicine doctor that specializes in coordinating inpatient care. Once your treatment is completed, the hospitalist will coordinate with your family doctor for any ongoing care. If you do not have a family doctor, the hospitalist can refer you to one following your discharge.

Our hospitalists serve you in a variety of ways, including:

  • Treating your medical condition throughout your stay
  • Coordinating your hospital care including diagnostic tests such as x-rays, blood tests or other procedures
  • Arranging specialty care including therapy or consults with other specialists
  • Transitioning your medical care back to your physician who will resume responsibility after discharge
