What is osteotomy?

Osteotomy is a surgical procedure that realigns bones to change how a joint carries weight. The term means "bone cutting," but the goal is restorative: by carefully reshaping and repositioning a bone, your surgeon redistributes pressure within the joint so it moves more comfortably.

Knee osteotomy, hip osteotomy and ankle osteotomy are often recommended for people with early to moderate arthritis, joint deformities or damage from a previous injury. This joint preservation surgery is most commonly performed around the knee or hip, and in some cases the ankle.

Conditions we treat

Our expert team delivers expert care for a wide range of joint injuries and conditions.

Why treatment is important?

Alignment problems rarely correct themselves, and uneven pressure on a joint can accelerate cartilage loss over time. Addressing the issue early helps protect joint health, preserve mobility and may delay or prevent the need for total joint replacement. Seeking care sooner rather than later gives you the best opportunity to stay active and comfortable in daily life.
