Why a knee replacement may need revision

Artificial knee joints are designed to last many years, but they do not last forever. Over time, normal wear and tear can affect how the prosthesis functions. In some cases, the implant may loosen from the bone, become unstable or develop alignment problems. Infection, stiffness or fracture around the implant can also make revision necessary.

When this happens, replacing part or all of the original prosthesis can help restore function and reduce pain. Early evaluation is important so we can identify the cause of your symptoms and recommend the most appropriate treatment.
