Needle Aponeurotomy for Dupuytren’s Release

Dupuytren’s release is a procedure that relieves tightness in the palm caused by Dupuytren’s contracture — a condition where thickened bands of tissue under the skin pull one or more fingers into a bent position. Over time, these cords make it difficult to straighten your fingers fully or place your hand flat on a table. While there’s no cure, treatments like needle aponeurotomy and partial fasciectomy can help restore motion and improve hand function.

When is treatment recommended?

Dupuytren’s release may be recommended when:

  • One or more fingers can no longer fully straighten.
  • Your hand can no longer lie flat against a tabletop.
  • Tightness interferes with daily activities such as gripping, typing or washing.
  • Nonsurgical treatments — such as observation, splinting or injections — are no longer effective.

Your care team will evaluate which fingers are involved, how severe the contracture is, and what approach best fits your lifestyle and goals.
