Skin Cancer Treatment and Prevention
Access a team of dedicated experts.
If you've been diagnosed with melanoma or another type of skin cancer, the experts at Novant Health Cancer Institute are here to help throughout your journey. You have an entire care team on your side, including dermatological oncologists, melanoma specialists, cancer patient navigator services and our compassionate support staff.
From diagnosis to personalized treatment.
If your primary care physician or dermatologist suspects early symptoms of skin cancer, they'll refer you to a skin specialist. From there, our team reviews your case and works with you to develop a personalized treatment plan.
Depending on your situation, your skin cancer treatment may include:
- Sentinel lymph node biopsy: The removal and biopsy of lymph nodes to see if cancer is present.
- Skin grafting: Healthy skin is transplanted from one area of the body to treat the affected area.
- Complex closure: The closure of an open wound after skin cancer removal.
- Reconstruction: Surgery is performed to replace missing skin and tissue to restore its appearance and minimize scarring.
- Radiation therapy, immunotherapy and targeted agents: For advanced cases, one or more of these treatments may be used.
