In health we rise
Thomasville Medical Center is committed to making healthcare more accessible and affordable by providing community health education, screenings and care for our under- and uninsured neighbors.
We also believe in supporting our neighbors within the community. That’s why, each year, we:
- Sponsor the Thomasville Everybody Day Festival, an annual celebration of the people of Thomasville
- Serve as an active member of the Thomasville, Lexington and Archdale/Trinity Chambers of Commerce
- Partner with Davidson-Davie Community College and other local institutions to train future generations of healthcare professionals
- Celebrate members of the armed services by hosting a community Veterans’ Day program
- Offer ConnectionLink, a program providing seniors in our community the opportunity to socialize, hear from local healthcare providers and engage with health and wellness experts to stay healthy as they age
- Encourage team members to serve on boards and committees within our community, including United Way of Davidson County, Department of Social Services, Cancer Services of Davidson County, and Davidson Works Workforce Development
Hispanic/Latino Advisory Council
Our Hispanic/Latino Advisory Council, made up of Davidson County residents who identify as Hispanic or Latino, partners with hospital leadership on strategies to better meet the needs of our Latinx community members.
English as a Second Language CNA training
We help fund Davidson-Davie Community College’s unique certified nurse assistant (CNA) training program designed for students for whom English is a second language to help them complete their CNA courses.
YMCA partnership
We donate to the YMCA and Thomasville Communities in School (CIS) program to hire a bilingual staff member to help better connect with the local Latinx community and offer community health education.
Serving your community since 1930
Thomasville Medical Center has been a pioneer of bringing cutting-edge healthcare services to Davidson County from the beginning.
- 1930: City Memorial Hospital of Thomasville opens.
- 1934: Nurses’ home built next door to the hospital.
- 1966: Hospital:
- Opens the first intensive care unit in Davidson County.
- Establishes Piedmont Cardiac Rehab, a pioneer cardiac rehabilitation program in the area.
- 1967: Hospital Guild of Thomasville volunteer group forms to support medical scholarships and the hospital’s growth.
- 1971:
- Hospital’s name changes to Community General Hospital of Thomasville.
- Moves to a new location thanks to the efforts of a community fund drive.
- 1986: Outpatient cancer treatment center opens, bringing cancer services to Davidson County.
- 1988: The Learning Place opens, establishing Community General as one of the first hospitals in the Triad to establish on-site childcare.
- 1997: Community General Hospital of Thomasville merges with Novant Health.
- 2001: Hospital’s name officially changes to Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center.
- 2008: New emergency room opens, including our nationally-recognized chest pain and stroke centers and Davidson County's only sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) room.
- 2012: New women’s center opens, featuring comprehensive maternity resources, a new nursery, birthing suites and postpartum rooms to accommodate today's parents.
- 2012: Hospital expands to add a specialty unit for geriatric mental health.
- 2013: Thomasville Medical Center becomes the eighth hospital in the U.S., and second hospital in North Carolina, to receive Certification of Inpatient Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
- 2017: Thomasville Medical Center opens North Carolina’s first Baby Café. A Babe Café is a free, no-appointment needed space for pregnant and breastfeeding women in the community to receive support from lactation consultants to meet their breastfeeding or chestfeeding goals.
