Weight loss support groups

Weight loss takes commitment, persistence and dedication. Staying motivated and sticking to your plan can sometimes be challenging. That's why Novant Health offers a selection of weight loss support groups. Having a community of people on the same weight loss journey is empowering. Our support groups provide a safe place to discuss your concerns, share your victories and learn from the experiences of others who have succeeded in losing weight and keeping it off. Ask one of our weight loss specialists to help you find an online or in-person group.

The emotional side of weight gain

You may gain weight for various reasons, including hormonal imbalances, genetics and specific medical conditions. You may also overeat in response to stress, anxiety, depression and other mental health issues.

Our weight loss counselors are trained to help you identify the emotional triggers associated with unhealthy food choices. You'll learn coping strategies and skills that can change your relationship with food and help you manage complex emotions in productive, positive ways.

Professional weight loss counseling

Therapy is an essential component of our surgical and nonsurgical weight loss programs. Counseling is included as part of the bariatric surgery assessment to determine if you're a candidate for weight loss surgery. We also offer it on an ongoing basis if you're part of our weight loss program.

Our weight loss counseling services include:

  • Individual counseling
  • Cognitive behavioral therapy
  • Support groups
  • Psychological testing for surgical weight loss candidates
  • Classes and seminars, including Mindful Eating and Back on Track
