A time may come when you need expert care for an orthopedic condition or injury. Charlotte Orthopedic Hospital is a regional leader for knee and hip replacement and treatment of other orthopedic conditions. Rehabilitation is an important part of your recovery plan. Physical and occupational therapy after surgery can help you live an active, independent life with less pain. Your rehabilitation specialists will do thorough evaluations after your surgery and help coordinate your ongoing care with individualized recommendations for when you leave the hospital.
During your stay with us, you can use our rehabilitation gym. In the gym, you can practice climbing stairs, getting in and out of a car and walking with the help of parallel bars. Other activities could include strength training using weights or exercises on a mat.
You may also receive physical and occupational therapy services at your bedside or in your room, depending on your level of strength and energy. Receiving rehabilitation services can help you lower your risk of injury after surgery and get you back to your routine more quickly.
Once you leave our hospital, you can continue your recovery in a number of ways. You could be admitted to the skilled nursing unit at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, which specializes in helping not only orthopedic patients but patients with other diagnoses as well. They have a rehabilitation gym and an activities room. You could also participate in at-home rehabilitation services or in outpatient services at a nearby rehabilitation facility. Your care team will work with you to figure out what your next step should be.
