Charlotte Orthopedic Hospital
a department of Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center

We appreciate your interest in volunteering with us. Due to concerns regarding COVID-19, the volunteer program at all Novant Health facilities has been temporarily suspended. Therefore, at this time, we are unable to invite volunteers to join our team. Your safety and the safety of our patients, loved ones and team members is our priority.

Potential Adult Volunteers: We invite you to complete an application. By doing so we have your information on file and can contact you when the suspension is lifted and we once again start the onboarding process of new volunteers. We look forward to getting to know you!

Potential Junior Volunteers (ages 14-18): The 2020 Fall Program has been cancelled. The status of the 2021 Spring Program has not yet been determined. Please revisit this website in November, 2020 for updated information about the status of our Spring Program.

Your gift of time can make a difference in the lives of others

We are seeking volunteers who have a passion for serving others, own remarkable team-focused attitudes and display excellent customer service skills.  Our volunteers know the rewards of helping others and making a difference in someone else’s life.  Great smiles are required and no experience is necessary!

Volunteer opportunities encompass many hospital departments and include a variety of different roles.  As a volunteer, you will help present the friendly, caring face we’re known for, by assisting patients and visitors in numerous ways, such as:

  • Greeting patients and visitors and helping them find their way
  • Serving at reception desks and information centers
  • Assisting family members by providing emotional support in one of our family waiting rooms
  • Providing non-clinical assistance to various departments within the hospital

If you enjoy interacting with people and serving others, please consider becoming a part of our remarkable volunteer team at Novant Health Charlotte Orthopedic Hospital.

All potential volunteers must complete an online application.  Once your application is received, we will contact you via email with the next steps of the process.   The volunteer on-boarding process is a multi-step one which includes: application, references, orientation class, interview, health screening, background check (18 years of age and up), and other department specific service training.  Please note: completion of the process does not guarantee placement.

Adult and Local College Student Applicants:

Our Adult Volunteers (ages 18 and up) provide an invaluable community service that is appreciated by everyone they encounter.  They also enjoy camaraderie with others who share the same interest in serving people in a healthcare setting.   Most provide a minimum of one four-hour shift per week.  If you are an adult or local college student interested in volunteering, please complete the online Adult/Local College Student Application

College Student Summer-Only Applicants: (available to volunteer May-August)

Our College Summer-Only Program is perfect for students that attend college outside the Charlotte area.  College summer volunteers gain valuable and rewarding non-clinical experience in a hospital environment.  You must be able to commit to 65 hours of volunteer service between the months of May – August. The process is selective and limited spots are available.  Online applications are accepted between March 1st and April 30th. If you are a college student interested in volunteering and will only be available to volunteer in the summer months, please complete the online College Summer-Only Application.

Junior Volunteer Applicants:

Our Junior Volunteer program offers an opportunity for teens, ages 14 to 18 (minimum rising 9th grade – 12th grade), to serve after school and/or during the summer.

  • Summer Session: June – August (9 weeks)
  • Fall Session: October – December (10 weeks)
  • Spring Session: February – April (10 weeks)

Junior Volunteers must be able to follow directions, accept supervision and work independently. We are looking for mature students who can make a reliable commitment of one 2-3-hour shift per week.  Consistent weekly attendance is important/required. Our Junior Volunteers are supervised by a Volunteer Coordinator and they perform many of the same duties as adult volunteers.

  • Applications for the Summer Junior Volunteer Session are accepted between March 1st and March 31st.
  • Applications for the School-Year Fall and Spring Junior Volunteer Sessions are accepted between August 1st and August 31st.
  • No early or late applications will be accepted

NOTE: The Junior Volunteer Program is highly desirable and extremely competitive with significantly more applicants than service roles available. The number of service roles available is solely based on the needs of Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center.

Upon submission of a Junior Volunteer Application specific instructions will be emailed to the applicant regarding the next steps of the process. Applicants must successfully complete all application steps by the deadlines stated in this email in order to be considered for an interview. Completion of paperwork does not guarantee an interview, and an invitation to interview does not guarantee placement. If accepted into the program, Junior Volunteers are given a specific volunteer assignment. Junior Volunteer assignments have specific duties and responsibilities and are not intended to provide the student with shadowing opportunities of medical professionals.

To apply to be a Junior Volunteer, please complete the online Junior Volunteer Application.
