With proper care, you can prevent strokes and the disabilities they cause
Anyone can have a stroke, even a child or infant. Up to 80 percent of strokes could have been prevented, so make time today to bring in a family member or friend for a checkup if you have a concern about stroke risk.
Call 911 at the first sign of a stroke
The
FAST acronym
is an easy way to remember the symptoms and warning signs of a stroke
and what to do:
-
F
– Facial paralysis
-
A
– Arm weakness
-
S
– Speech
difficulties
-
T
– Time to call 911
Do
not ignore these warning signs,
even if they go away. Stroke is a serious medical emergency, and the
quicker you receive treatment, the better your chances for surviving
the stroke with minimal disability.
You
may have other medical problems, including a transient ischemic attack, (TIA).
These “mini-strokes” are also very serious. Call 911 for help.
