Scholarly Activity
We believe that every resident can contribute to the future of medicine through scholarship. That’s why all residents complete at least three scholarly activities during their training — two team-based quality improvement (QI) projects and one capstone activity.
Highlights
Scholarship is woven into our residency through:
Research requirements
Per ACGME common program requirements, our program encourages you to participate in scholarly activity through measures like:
- Curriculum designed to advance your knowledge of the basic principles of research, including how research is conducted, evaluated, explained to patients and applied to patient care.
- Educational resources dedicated to facilitating your involvement in scholarly activities.
Explore our curriculum
You’ll gain diverse clinical experience across inpatient, outpatient, and subspecialty settings, guided by people who love to teach and are invested in your growth. Visit our curriculum page to learn more and to explore our conference schedule.
Community outreach
Our call schedule is designed to give you time to deeply get to know our local communities inside and outside of our facilities. You’ll see our residents out in the community — often in our signature aubergine shirts — connecting medicine to the moments that matter most. Ways you'll be able to serve our community as a resident in our program include:
- Volunteer at local free clinics during evening hours.
- Provide school and sports physicals on select summer and fall Saturdays.
- Serve as the sideline physician for a local high school football team.
- Participate in Novant Health-sponsored events such as races, sports events, and the Thanksgiving parade.
Our call schedule also ensures protected time off for scholarly activity.
