CT Lung Cancer Screening

Early lung screening with CT scans can save lives.

A history of smoking can cause concern about lung cancer risk. You can address your concerns through early lung screening. This procedure, called low-dose computed tomography (LDCT), can find lung disease before symptoms begin. This is important because cancer is most treatable in the early stages.

In addition to its ability to find lung cancer early, this procedure uses less ionizing radiation than a conventional chest CT scan. LDCT is most appropriate for people with a high cancer risk. Talk with your healthcare provider about LDCT if you are:

  • Age 50 to 80 years old
  • Have a history of smoking at least 20 packs of cigarettes a year
  • Still smoking or quit within the last 15 years
  • In relatively good health
  • Have no symptoms of lung cancer
