Breast Ultrasound
This powerful, painless technology offers answers about your breast health.
If your mammogram shows changes in your breast tissue, an ultrasound may be your next recommended step. A breast ultrasound is usually a painless test and uses sound waves to produce images. Ultrasound makes it easier to locate and measure lumps or other changes seen in your screening mammogram. With this technology, your medical team can:
- Combine ultrasound with diagnostic mammography to investigate lumps.
- Help determine whether a breast lump is solid or fluid-filled.
- Continue evaluation if you have nipple discharge or other potential breast problems.
- Use ultrasound as a guide tool during other procedures such as breast biopsies or when removing fluid from a cyst.
