Residents in the Novant Health family medicine residency program in Wilmington don’t just learn in the hospital — they learn in the community alongside a supportive network of passionate faculty and dedicated community preceptors. You’ll gain diverse clinical experience across inpatient, outpatient, and subspecialty settings — guided by people who love to teach and are invested in your growth.
Rotation schedule
We use a 13-block rotation schedule beginning at the end of June.
First postgraduate year (PGY-1)

Rural family medicine track
Interested in making a difference in underserved communities?
Through our rural track, you'll serve at Black River Health Services in Burgaw, NC, just 26 miles from Wilmington. You'll receive full-scope family medicine training while serving a medically underserved population and gaining valuable rural inpatient and outpatient experience.
