About

As a child, I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, which my father also has. It was a lot to take in and manage, and the experience inspired me to go into medicine. I specifically was - and am - interested in endocrine disorders.

I aim for balance in my own life and encourage my patients to seek a healthy balance, too. I encourage patients to be aware of what they eat, to make healthy choices and to make exercise a part of their daily lives. At the same time, I know we're all human and that we ...

PA telling me my thyroid will have to be removed and not having knowledge of less invasive procedures that can be done if my nodules are benign

To be honest, this is my second visit with this physician, and my gut is usually accurate - I do not feel heard as a patient. While Emily has a pleasant demeanor, she is a young physician who seems very focused on pushing medication, specifically GLP1s. I have made it explicitly clear to every physician I've seen that I do not want to be on any GLP1 medication. I work in the pharmaceutical industry and I understand adverse events and side effects. Despite this, she continues to bring it up and ask if I'm "still interested." My answer has not changed in four years, so the answer is still no.It was also disheartening that when I shared my progress - even if the improvements were small - there was no acknowledgment or encouragement. Patients deserve to have their efforts recognized. The nutritionist I met with was more excited about my progress than my own physician, and that says a lot. It made me feel undervalued as a patient. The one saving grace is that this location is extremely convenient, and I do appreciate that. But overall, patients need to come first. Even if I'm not "there yet," those small victories should still be celebrated. The way I felt leaving the office made me question myself and wonder if I wasn't doing anything good enough.I'm also frustrated that I haven't had any blood work or a urine sample done in over six months. I had to ask the physician to please run the tests because I wanted to see my progress. It doesn't seem reasonable to go from September 2025 to April 2026 without any labs. How can you track changes or identify issues without updated measurements? It almost feels like accurate reporting isn't a priority, and that the focus is more on showing results than truly putting patients first.

Emily made it a very personal visit I love that she records our visits and uses some type of transcription software. She is also very good at returning messages in MyChart. I wish every doctor used the same software instead of constant typing.
