Family Medicine Residency

Training tomorrow's leaders in family medicine

The Novant Health family medicine residency program in the Charlotte region prepares the next generation of expert physicians to improve the health of communities, one person at a time. We welcome six new family medicine residents to join the Novant Health family and Charlotte community each year. Learn more about how we can make a difference in your medical training.

Our program is Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited with Osteopathic Recognition status.

A group of residents are gathered around their preceptor as they listen and discuss.

Learn from the best.

Our team includes a core program faculty of seven full-time family medicine attending physicians, a behavioral medicine specialist, a PharmD, and an academic specialist. In addition to full-spectrum family medicine practice, our faculty are experts in point-of-care ultrasound (PoCUS), breastfeeding/lactation medicine, global medicine, osteopathic medicine, health systems management, and healthcare advocacy. All of us are committed to helping you grow professionally and personally.

Residency curriculum

To meet the needs of our diverse patient population, we provide equitable care to help every patient who walks through our doors live their best. Our rotations and outreach initiatives are designed to reach groups of people that have traditionally been marginalized.

All rotations take place in the Charlotte area.

If you want to build specific experience and skills beyond the core rotations of the family medicine program, you can enhance your curriculum by completing one of our specialty tracks. Most of our graduates practice outpatient family medicine, while some have chosen to pursue urgent care, hospitalist work, or fellowships in global health, geriatrics, hospice and palliative care, sports medicine, and neuro-muscular medicine. You can also work with your faculty to customize electives and away rotations tailored to meet your goals.

Application requirements

Novant Health participates in the National Resident Matching Program. Apply as soon as possible once the ERAS application opens.
