Curriculum

During years one and two of the Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center psychiatry residency, the majority of clinical rotations take place at Novant Health. In years three and four, outpatient services at Camp Lejeune are utilized more extensively. Military residents are required to complete certain designated rotations at Camp Lejeune, while civilian residents are not obligated to participate in these rotations.

  • 1 Block Geriatric Inpatient Psychiatry Unit
  • 1 Block Emergency Department Behavioral Health Observation
  • 3 Blocks Internal Medicine
  • 1 Block Emergency Medicine
  • 2 Blocks Neurology
  • 2 Blocks Selective (Inpatient, Outpatient, or Scholarly Project)

PGY-2 

  • 4 Blocks Consult-Liaison Psychiatry
  • 3 Blocks Emergency Department Behavioral Health Observation
  • 4 Blocks Adult Inpatient Psychiatry Unit
  • 2 Blocks Selective (Inpatient, Outpatient, or Scholarly Project) 

PGY-3

  • Outpatient Medication Management and Therapy Clinics
  • Selective Outpatient or Scholarly Project 

PGY-4

  • Outpatient Medication Management and Therapy Clinics
  • Acting Attending
  • Selective Scholarly Project

Each program year gets one half day per week of protected academic time for didactics.
