Our services

Novant Health Pediatric Genetics – Midtown gives you access to renowned pediatric genetics providers who have devoted their careers to studying genetic conditions affecting growth and development. These providers will evaluate your child’s personal and family medical history to understand their current health care needs. They will also order any necessary labs, many of which can be drawn in our clinic.

Our goal is to make what may be complicated genetic information as simple and straightforward as possible so you can make informed decisions about your child’s care. Our pediatric genetic counselors are also available to provide ongoing supportive care as needed.

Your child might be referred for a genetic screening if they, or parents, have a history of:

  • An abnormal metabolic newborn screening
  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Congenital abnormalities (sometimes called birth defects)
  • Chromosomal disorders (Down syndrome, Turner syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome, Angelman syndrome)
  • Disorders caused by gene mutations (sickle cell disease, cystic fibrosis, Huntington disease, Marfan syndrome, Tay-Sachs disease)
  • Hearing or vision loss
  • Metabolic disorders (phenylketonuria (PKU) or mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS))
  • Stature significantly shorter than other children of the same age
  • Intellectual disability (significant learning delays or slow learning)
