If issues related to your colon, rectum or anus are causing you pain or affecting your overall health, our providers are here to help. We offer comprehensive care for colorectal cancers and colorectal concerns, including both surgical and nonsurgical treatment options, to adults of all ages.

Our colon and rectal surgeons will listen to your concerns, complete any diagnostic procedures needed without delay, and create a surgical or nonsurgical treatment plan specifically for you. And we do all of this with the compassion and confidentiality you deserve.

As part of the Novant Health Derrick L. Davis Cancer Center, we coordinate cancer care with medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology and radiology to ensure a comprehensive treatment plan. Also, a dedicated tumor board ensures that a whole team approach is utilized for your care.

Conditions we regularly treat include:

  • Colon cancer
  • Rectal cancer
  • Anal cancer
  • Colon and rectal polyps (cells that grow on the lining of the colon or rectum and can turn into cancer)
  • Diverticulitis (an infection in pockets that can form in the wall of the colon)
  • Hemorrhoids (enlarged and sometimes painful vascular bundles in the anal canal)
  • Crohn’s disease (chronic inflammation of the digestive tract, which can cause cramps, pain, diarrhea, weight loss or bleeding)
  • Ulcerative colitis (inflammation in the lining of the colon and the rectum, which can cause cramps, pain, diarrhea, weight loss and bleeding)
  • Anal abscess and fistula (an infected cavity of the anus or rectum)
  • Anal fissures (tears in the skin at the opening of the anus which can cause pain or bleeding)
  • Anal warts (growths around the anus caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV)
  • Bowel incontinence (an inability to fully control stool)
  • Constipation (trouble evacuating stool from the body)
  • Pelvic floor disorders (a condition where muscles of the pelvic floor do not function correctly, causing pain and constipation)
  • Pruritus ani (anal itching)
  • Pilonidal disease (chronic infection of the skin between the anus and the tailbone)
  • Rectal prolapse (when the rectum protrudes out of the anus)

Procedures we regularly perform include:

  • Colectomy (removal of all or part of the colon; often used to address cancer, diverticulitis or Crohn’s disease; can be done with minimally invasive techniques such as robotic and laparoscopic surgery, as well as with open (traditional) procedures)
  • Transanal Minimally Invasive Surgery (TAMIS; a minimally invasive procedure to remove polyps)
  • Hemorrhoidectomy (removal of hemorrhoids)
  • Colonoscopy (an examination of the entire length of your colon using a thin, tube-shaped instrument)
  • Abscess drainage (to clear infection)
  • Complex fistula management procedures (to manage complex anal fistula)
