What you need to know about bone health

As women grow older, bone health becomes a greater risk for fractures and other painful, debilitating conditions. Our orthopedic specialists offer bone density screenings and a variety of tests that measures strength, endurance, appropriate aging, and examines bone tissue for developing diseases and/or conditions, and if present, the severity of the progression. Many people mistakenly believe that a bone scan is the same thing as a bone density scan, but the two procedures are very different.

Referrals to assisted living & rehabilitation care

As you age, you may find yourself in need of coordinated care after accidents, surgeries, diseases that cause strokes, seizures or memory loss. Healing and recovery takes longer as we age than it did when we were younger. Novant Health has the connections and networks to help provide coordinated care and to make referrals to address your needs whether it be temporary during rehabilitation or on a permanent basis to an assisted living facility.

Making end of life decisions

Many of us live as if we have forever, especially when we are young. As we age, thoughts of how we want to retire and live the rest of our days tend to occupy our minds. In spite of this, too many still avoid planning for death. Don’t leave your loved ones with the responsibility of making difficult choices for you, or risk spending your last days in a place where you don’t want to be in discomfort.

The best time to make medical choices for your health and end of life decisions is when you’re healthy and of sound mind—now. If you’re unsure how to begin creating a plan for your medical care and death, Novant Health has developed Choices and Champions to help you with resources and tools on medical choices, the necessary forms and legal documents you will need.

For care givers

Adult children often find themselves in the position of having to care for elderly parents while caring for their own children and working a career. This situation can be stressful and confusing. If you are in need of information and resources to help your loved one, Novant Health is here to assist you.
