Specialty programs and services

Our care extends beyond your hospital stay and includes specialized programs and services to address your particular needs after an injury or illness. These include:

Low-vision clinic: If you have macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts or other visual impairments, you know the frustration and fear that limited vision can cause. Our highly trained staff will evaluate your eyesight and determine whether there are techniques, eye exercises or assistive devices that would help you better use the vision you have. Treatments focus on adequate lighting, contrast, magnification, exercises and compensatory techniques for activities of daily living. A low-vision evaluation and follow-up training can lead to increased safety and independence in performing regular tasks and improve your ability to interact and socialize with others. Your optometrist or ophthalmologist must refer you to the program.

Driving rehabilitation program: If you have physical, visual, cognitive and/or perceptual impairments, occupational therapists with driving rehabilitation training can help you return to independence. We offer clinical and on-road evaluations of your ability to drive safely, recommendations of specialized equipment to make safe driving possible, and on-road driver’s training based on assessed driving needs and skills. If you have had a stroke, amputation, spinal cord injury, diabetes, heart condition, neurological impairment or age-related loss of function, you may be a good candidate for the program. A physician’s approval is necessary for enrollment.

Spinal cord injury: If you have suffered a spinal cord injury, our interdisciplinary approach and state-of-the-art care can help you achieve your highest level of independence. After a hospital stay, we provide intensive rehabilitation by certified rehabilitation nurses and other experienced staff. Services may include skin care training, toilet training, bowel and bladder training, wheelchair fitting and instruction, and instruction in daily living activities.

Wheelchair and seating: If you need expert advice on what wheelchair, scooter or specialized cushion system is best for you, our wheelchair and seating specialists can help. You can test-drive sample wheelchairs and cushions. You’ll be evaluated by a physical therapist, and vendors will be on hand to answer questions. Our experts will make recommendations and follow up with you.

Wellness program: Our flexible wellness programs allow you to continue your rehabilitation, supervised or unsupervised, in a safe environment until you are comfortable to do so independently or can find a suitable alternative setting.

Sports and orthopedic rehabilitation: Our sports medicine physical therapists are trained to help you regain your strength, flexibility, stability and endurance as quickly as possible. Many sports-related injuries can be treated by our physical therapy experts, without surgery. If you are recovering from surgery, we can design a rehabilitation plan for your specific needs.

Women’s health rehabilitation: Our specialized women’s physical therapy programs offer treatment and relief for health conditions specific to women, including urinary incontinence, vaginismus/vulvadynia, cystocele/prolapse, chronic pelvic pain and painful intercourse, pregnancy-related problems and post-cancer treatment complications.

Men’s health rehabilitation: Our physical therapists are specifically trained in rehabilitation and can help relieve a number of conditions that cause men pain or severe discomfort such as pelvic pain, groin pain, testicular pain and post-prostatectomy issues, including pelvic floor and rectal dysfunction.
