Lung cancer

 Why early detection matters

Catching signs of lung disease and cancer in the early stages greatly increases the opportunity to treat smaller tumors rather than waiting to treat advanced disease. You may qualify to participate in our Lung Cancer Early Detection Clinical Trial.

How our team focuses on you and your treatment

We have a team of experts who will customize your lung cancer care based on your individual diagnosis. The dedicated professionals that will work closely with you include experts from surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, pathology, nutrition, patient navigation, clinical research, psychosocial support services and symptom management.

We provide you with clinical trials not widely available

We participate in national and international clinical research trials, which provides you with opportunities to receive cancer treatments not widely available elsewhere.

Cancer support for you and your family

Facing a lung cancer diagnosis can be a challenging time in your and your family’s life. At Novant Health Cancer Institute, we offer support services like counseling, support groups, financial resource guidance, case management and educational seminars to help deal with the emotional, mental and finical aspects of your diagnosis.

Symptom management to improve your quality of life

At Novant Health, part of your lung cancer treatment is helping you manage the physical side effects of the disease as well as its treatment. We offer nutrition counseling, yoga, massage and exercise programs led by cancer experts specially-trained to improve your symptoms during your treatment and recovery.

Learn more about our smoking cessation program

Smoking cessation is particularly important for cancer survivors, whether they are currently undergoing treatment or have already finished. Quitting smoking has benefits of improved survival, treatment outcomes and quality of life. Quitting smoking decreases toxicity and surgical complications.

Novant Health Cancer Institute now provides tobacco cessation counseling for cancer patients and survivors. If you take advantage of this program, your tobacco cessation counselor will:

  • Utilize evidence-based practice in tobacco cessation
  • Recommend pharmacologic therapy
  • Provide close follow-up with face-to-face and telephone counseling sessions
  • Insurance carriers typically provide coverage, but you should check insurance coverage for smoking cessation counseling and nicotine replacement therapy.

To learn more about the smoking cessation program or to make an appointment in the Charlotte area, please call the Novant Health Multidisciplinary Cancer Clinic at 704-384-5373.

Cancer patient navigators help you through your treatment

During your treatment, our cancer patient navigators will be your direct support contact. Patient navigators are nurses who have been specially trained in cancer. They are here to help you, your family and friends through every step of your treatment. Patient navigators are available to any cancer patient, regardless of diagnosis.

Learn more about our multidisciplinary lung cancer clinic

Some of our Novant Health Cancer Institute facilities offer a multidisciplinary lung cancer clinic, which provides a unique opportunity to receive a second opinion on your lung cancer diagnosis. During this process, our team of specialists will work together to review your case. They will discuss the best treatment options for your particular cancer. From there, you will receive an individualized treatment plan recommendation.

 Our approach to inpatient treatment

In the event your treatment requires an overnight stay, our hospitals with inpatient oncology units can provide you with the expert care, support and amenities you need when you need them.
