A biopsy is an important tool for understanding your breast health
When you and your medical team want to get a better understanding of your breast health, we have many tools to help. Breast biopsies allow your care team to get a close look at breast tissue, which can be taken with a needle or during surgery.
If your medical team decides to use a needle to get a tissue sample, they may also use other technology to help identify the concerning tissue. Technology that can be a guide for a biopsy includes X-rays, mammography/stereotactic, ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Please inform your physician or the technologist performing the exam if there is any possibility that you are pregnant. Your doctor may postpone the exam to reduce the possible risk of exposing your baby to radiation or recommend non-radiation alternatives.
