Providing the highest level of care to premature and critically-ill newborns

image of father with baby in NICUNovant Health Presbyterian Medical Center's neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), located in the Novant Health Women's Center, is a Level IV nursery, the highest certification attainable in North Carolina, for treating premature and critically-ill newborns.

The 38-bed NICU provides continuous care delivered by board-certified neonatologists, pediatricians, respiratory therapists, neonatal nurse practitioners, nutritionists, early intervention coordinators, physical therapists, occupational therapists, social workers, pharmacists, audiologists, discharge planning nurses, speech therapists and child life specialists.

Critical care transport

Our specially equipped neonatal and pediatric transport vehicle is designed to provide a high level of care during transfer, and our CCT team is trained extensively in handling newborn and children’s critical illnesses and injuries. It includes:

  • Advanced life support and crisis medications
  • Blood pressure and cardiac monitors that transmit vital signs to emergency room doctors while the CCT is en route allowing for the most appropriate treatment to begin immediately upon arrival
  • Endotracheal intubations and ventilator management if your child has respiratory distress
