Interview process and program signaling

In alignment with recommendations from our governing bodies, all residency interviews for our program will be conducted virtually. We are committed to ensuring a fair and equitable process for all applicants. 

Our program will be participating in program signaling. We encourage applicants who are genuinely interested in a strong community-based program with university affiliations to consider using a signal to express their interest. While signaling is optional, it provides an opportunity for applicants to highlight their enthusiasm for our program.

If you have completed an acting internship (AI) with our program, there is no need to submit a program signal. Your demonstrated interest and experience with us are already well recognized and appreciated. 

Additionally, we offer optional second-look visits to assist candidates in making informed decisions. These visits are purely observational and will not include interviews or influence an applicant’s position on our rank list. 

Application criteria

• We will being offering interviews October 13, 2025.
• Novant Health offers an internal medicine residency experience where every faculty physician knows your name and what's unique about you.
  
• All candidates must apply through ERAS.
• Applications are accepted through November 30, 2025.
• Orientation will begin on June 15, 2026.
• We do not accept or sponsor any visas. IMG’s who are permanent residents and US. citizens are welcome to apply.
• The first attempt minimum USMLE score is 200; the average minimum score is 220.
• The first attempt minimum COMLEX score is 450; the average minimum score is 500.
• Prior to ranking (not applying) Steps 1 and 2 must be complete.
• We would prefer graduation from medical school within the past 5 years.
• The interview season begins November 7, 2025 and ends December 17, 2025.
• ECFMG certificates, when appropriate, must be current prior to licensure (not application).
• Prior US clinical experience in Internal Medicine is strongly preferred.
• A minimum of three letters of recommendation are required.
• Novant Health does not offer any Internal Medicine Fellowships.
