St. Jude Affiliate Clinic at Novant Health Hemby Children's Hospital treats children with cancer and a wide range of blood disorders. Our doctors are board-certified, and they have deep experience treating children and young adults. We also work with local specialists to provide an individual plan of care for your child.

Life-saving clinical trials are closer than ever
The St. Jude Affiliate Clinic at Novant Health Hemby Children's Hospital in Charlotte gives your child access to more life-saving treatments and clinical trials than at any other cancer treatment facility in the region. Our clinic is the only St. Jude Children's Research Hospital affiliate in the Carolinas, and is one of just three nationwide to take part in clinical trials with both St. Jude and COG, giving local families the broadest range of treatment options for their children.
Care is available without a clinical trial
To receive care through St. Jude Affiliate Clinic at Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital, patients do not need to be eligible for a St. Jude trial. Clinical trial participation is voluntary and determined by eligibility as well as availability. Therefore, your patient may be offered multiple options for treatment: a St. Jude clinical trial, a Children’s Oncology or non-trial therapy.
Travel isn’t always necessary
Every patient is evaluated for the best treatment options. And while some trials do require travel, the goal of St. Jude Children’s Hospital is to make travel easy, to return patients home quickly, and to maximize local support and treatment through local affiliate clinics like St. Jude Affiliate Clinic at Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital.
Your pediatrician is connected to your care
Our care model puts primary care at the center, with communication protocols to keep referring providers personally apprised of patient conditions and treatment milestones. We also welcome your feedback and questions throughout the process. Further, our local team is dedicated to transitioning your patient back to his or her primary care home as soon as it is safe to do so.
We're always here for you
Your child's health doesn't take a break. That's why the nurses and doctors at our clinic are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A phone call at 3 a.m. will get you a doctor's prompt response.
More than medicine
We make your child's health and well-being our top priority. Our tight-knit, caring staff will get to know your child, offering friendly smiles and hugs at each visit. Our child life specialists use toys, games and age-appropriate explanations to ease the anxiety of visits. We provide art activities and guitar lessons to help children discover their inner artist. Our social workers and pastoral staff can help your family navigate the practical and spiritual aspects of illness and treatment.
Our history
St. Jude Affiliate Clinic at Novant Health Hemby Children's Hospital got its start as Blume Pediatric Hematology & Oncology in 2000 with a generous gift from Don and Betty Blume and family. The Blume family gift honored Don and Betty's young daughter, Sherri, who died of cancer in 1967. The Blume legacy has touched thousands of children and their families who have turned to Novant Health for medical excellence and compassionate care.
