We offer a variety of educational
opportunities that can teach you about diabetes and how to manage it.
Since there is no cure for diabetes, self-management plays a big
part in helping you live a healthy and active life. Our programs meet
the national standards of diabetes self-management training and have
been recognized by the American Diabetes Association. Our programs
Diabetes and pregnancy program
– This program is made up of two-hour group sessions designed to provide in-depth education on managing gestational diabetes and preexisting diabetes and pregnancy. Common topics covered include exercise, risks to the baby, stress management, nutrition and insulin instruction.
Insulin administration training
– This training session will help you learn insulin types, peak
times, and administration. You will also learn how to monitor your
glucose levels and how diets and exercise can help you live a
Living well with diabetes – If you have been recently diagnosed with diabetes or if you have never had any proper training on how to manage it, this course can help you. This comprehensive four session group class covers important topics like nutrition, meal planning, foot care, exercise, sick-day guidelines, goal setting and medications.

This program is also offered at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center and Novant Health Kernersville Medical Center and is free of charge.
Initial assessments – One on one session with a nurse educator to determine individual’s needs. Topics covered include carb counting, label reading to help you kick-start your diabetes self-management. A physician’s referral is required. The nominal fee charged for this session is billable to insurance.
Support group – Free support group for those touched by diabetes to learn factual updates in diabetes care, receive support and share encouragement with discussion lead by diabetes educator focusing on a variety of topics. This support group meets the 3rd Tuesday evening of January, March, May, July, September and November from 6 – 7 pm in the education classroom at the hospital.
