Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) program certification
In November, 2013, Thomasville Medical Center received disease-specific certification for our chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) program. We are the first hospital in the state of North Carolina to receive this certification and only the eighth in the nation. The expertise and commitment of our respiratory care department in collaboration with nursing, physician partners and pulmonary rehab, has positively impacted the care of our patients with this chronic debilitating disease. COPD is now the third leading cause of death in America.
Thomasville Medical Center was awarded ISO certification through DNV (Det Norske Veritas) Healthcare. ISO certification reflects successful implementation of a quality management system that is built to increase efficacy and predictability, as well as eliminate waste and duplication. This quality management system has long been recognized in the manufacturing industry and is newly entering the healthcare setting. Thomasville Medical Center is the second hospital in North Carolina to achieve this certification. The objectives of ISO are consistent with the focus on quality demonstrated in Novant Health every day.
