Presbyterian Medical Center Services Neurology & neurosurgery

Nationally recognized care for brain, spine and nerve disorders

Our team of board-certified neurologists, surgeons and other specialists can provide diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of conditions that affect the brain and nervous system.

Brain aneurysm

A brain aneurysm occurs when part of an artery wall in the brain weakens and swells. Symptoms include:

  • Sudden, severe headache that is different from past headaches
  • Confusion or loss of consciousness
  • Severe neck pain
  • Blurred vision
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Nausea with vomiting
  • Seizures

If you or a loved one experiences these symptoms, call 911 immediately. If an aneurysm ruptures, it is a life-threatening medical emergency.

Brain tumor

If you have a brain tumor or neurological complications as a result of other forms of cancer, you can rely on the team at Presbyterian Medical Center to provide leading-edge, compassionate care.

Concussion and brain trauma
A blow to your head can cause a concussion, which often results in headache, confusion, dizziness or other symptoms that might show up right away – or days or even weeks later. If the symptoms are pronounced, you may want to visit our emergency department or a Novant Health physician. For athletes, we recommend baseline testing so that if he or she ever has a concussion, we can more accurately assess any damage.

Headaches and migraines

At Presbyterian Medical Center, we can diagnose and care for all types of headaches including migraines, cluster headaches and tension headaches. If you’re age 50 or older and experience a new kind headache you’ve never had before, consult a physician.
