Presbyterian Medical Center

Our volunteers are our heroes

If you have spent any time at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, you have noticed our volunteers who play such vital roles in the daily operations of our center.

We hope you’ll consider joining this special group. Our volunteers provide an invaluable community service that is appreciated by everyone they encounter. They also enjoy camaraderie with others who share the same interest in serving people in a healthcare setting.

As a volunteer, you’ll help to present the friendly, caring face we’re known for by assisting patients and visitors in many ways, including:

  • Visiting patients to ask about non-medical needs and offer emotional support
  • Serving at reception desks and information centers
  • Giving patients and visitors directions and helping them find their way
  • Transporting patients throughout the hospital
  • Assisting in the hospital gift shop and making welcome deliveries to patient rooms

No experience is necessary. As a new volunteer, you’ll attend an orientation class and receive training before you begin to volunteer. First we’ll ask you to fill out an application, have an interview with the volunteer services staff, and complete a health screening.

Junior volunteers - For teens ages 14 to 18, our junior volunteer program offers an opportunity to serve after school and during the summer. Our teen volunteers are trained and supervised by an experienced junior volunteer coordinator and they perform some of the same duties as adult volunteers.

Junior volunteers can learn about healthcare by assisting staff, visitors and patients with non-medical tasks. Volunteers must be able to follow directions, accept supervision and work independently. We are looking for students who can make a dependable commitment of one shift per week for an entire school year or summer program.

For more information about the junior volunteer program at Presbyterian Medical Center, please call 704-384-4866. To apply to be a junior volunteer, please submit the online Junior Volunteer Application Form. Applications for the summer program must be received by March 31; applications for the school year must be received by September 20.

We look forward to hearing from you!
