Ever since I was a child, I was drawn to a career in healthcare. Initially I wanted to become a counselor, but part way through my master's degree program, I realized I wanted a more hands-on field of medicine. I looked into many different areas and felt a spark when I was given the opportunity to shadow a physician assistant, also called a PA. I have a doctoral-level PA degree, which is uncommon among PAs and advanced practice providers.

Brendan Monaghan was open to my questions, accepted also my reluctance for major procedures due to my age, yet convinced me to take next step to see a cardiologist. He recommended a blood test to eliminate or find a connection between heart and breathing difficulties.

Most of care was given by the nurse or medical assistant and the PA intern, not much time with my primary PA. I would have rather had the PA as the lead from the beginning though I thought everything was fine.
