Growing up in the South, I saw firsthand how deeply diabetes and obesity affected individuals, families, and entire communities. That personal connection sparked my interest in medicine and ultimately led me to pursue endocrinology. Early in my medical training, I became fascinated by the intricate hormonal pathways that regulate metabolism, and this quickly became the focus of both my clinical and research interests.
