While I am technically a Charlotte native, I spent most of my youth in Austria and Australia. I have always loved science, and at the age of 16 I was able to start volunteering at a local rescue squad which spurred my interest in medicine. After graduating college and while applying to medical school, I worked as a medical assistant at an OB-GYN clinic. Dr. Mijares was professional, compassionate, practiced patient-centered care, and used shared-decision-making. She showed the utmost care for my questions and concerns. She involved me 100% in the decision making. She explained the treatment options clearly and concisely; addressing all options, and the risks and benefits of each. I didn't feel like Dr. Mijares was very confident and that made me concerned. I had a traumatic ER experience days before this apt with a hematoma that erupted. I didn't feel reassured or very heard. I was scared and traumatized and I was hoping for more advice and reassurance. I also received conflicting advice compared to the midwife I had seen at the practice previously.

Devin was so wonderful to talk to. She informed and reassured me that Novant's practice is focused on the patient's autonomy and making informed decisions. We discussed my birth plan and she answered all of my questions regarding "Plan B" and made sure I understood that they would make my comfort and wellbeing a priority throughout labor and delivery.
