In high school, performing arts was my passion. When I broke my leg my senior year, my theater days came to quick halt. I also love hiking, and that too was put on hold. I had to look for a new focus, and it turned out to be one that was right under my feet all along.
On those hikes, I had noticed and appreciated the diverse plant life of Western North Carolina. I became interested in ethnobotany (the study of the traditional knowledge of plants for medical and other uses) and herbal medicine....
