My path to orthopedic surgery started with a family friend who worked as an emergency room physician. That was my first real look at medicine, and that exposure sparked something. As I learned more, orthopedic surgery felt like a natural fit. I have always been drawn to taking things apart and putting them back together, which is, in many ways, what an orthopedic surgeon does. Growing up with a passion for sports only deepened that pull toward orthopedics and sports medicine.

The doctor who saw me based the entire visit off my previous medical history ignoring the fact that I was very clear that this was NEW pain in a NEW location. He DID NOT do an exam of my shoulder and based his entire opinion on my condition based off the new X-ray that he took. After reading my history and taking the X-ray he determined that this was likely my neck or fibromyalgia even though he admitted he doesn't know much about fibromyalgia. He then said he would offer to send me a referral if I chose but he didn't have anything new for me. I am very disappointed in the care I received. After dealing with chronic pain conditions for 8 years I know my body and when a pain is new and it's very frustrating to not even be examined and dismissed that my pain is not valid.

Dr. Brumfield displayed genuine interest. He showed me the x-ray images, was very explicit pointing out the areas causing my pain. He explained medical options and suggested best practices for dealing with it outside medical intervention.
