My career in medicine began unconventionally. While working as a music therapist in Western North Carolina in the late 1980s, I often found my patients' medical histories varied and complex. Although I was able to help them, I wanted to learn more and help more. So, with the support of the medical staff where I worked, I entered physician assistant school at Wake Forest University in 1991.

We love Dr. Donna. She always listens with genuine concern. I appreciate that during all appointments she talk to me as well as the children. She makes sure to listen to them just as closely and when she's talking to them she's engaging with them, not looking at me or talking at them.
