My path to medicine began at the dinner table. My mom was a nurse-midwife who delivered more than 800 babies, and her work stories made for anything but ordinary family conversations. From an early age, I knew I wanted to help people the way she did.

When I went to medical school, my obstetrics and gynecology rotation confirmed that instinct, but with a twist. Once the baby arrived, I found my attention shifting entirely to the newborn. That's when I knew pediatrics was where I belonged.
