I was led to a career in surgery by several factors. Growing up, I witnessed my father's rewarding career as a cardiothoracic surgeon who loved his profession and the opportunity to improve his patients' lives. When I was 16 I was diagnosed with a spinal condition that required surgery. My recovery went well and became a profound personal experience of the life changing impact that surgery can offer.
