I went into this appointment feeling hopeful and grateful that physician assistants can often see patients more quickly than cardiologists. I was also hopeful that, as a PA, she would take the time to really listen to my symptoms and concerns. Unfortunately, I left feeling completely dismissed.I came seeking reassurance that my symptoms were not related to my heart. My primary doctor encouraged me to see cardiology to rule out heart issues, especially given my history of SVT. Instead of feeling heard, I was made to feel like my concerns were irrational. While she did tell me I wasn't at risk for an emergency heart problem-which I appreciated-it was said in a way that implied I should have already known that.She also stated that only obese, diabetic, or unhealthy people have these kinds of heart problems, which I know is not accurate and felt very invalidating. When I mentioned anxiety, she replied that she doesn't treat anxiety and again dismissed the reasons I was there-seeking compassion, reassurance, and a clear plan to confirm that my heart is healthy.Although I appreciate that we are proceeding with a heart echo and a monitor, it felt like I had to ask for these tests and that my presence was a nuisance. I'm sharing this feedback in hopes that no other patient feels the same way I did-unheard and dismissed when simply trying to understand and care for their health.Thank you for taking the time to read my feedback.
