My grandmother had Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney disease and other co-morbidities that led to her being in pain as well as to multiple hospital visits. I remember reading the registered dietitian's notes to my grandmother about portion control, weighing her proteins and counting carbs. That gave me the motivation to pursue nutrition and dietetics; I saw first-hand how beneficial it was for my grandmother to have that kind of support.
