African American women have long faced disparities in medical care, and through my own experiences, I can attest that those disparities are real. Like many other Black women, I have searched for physicians who reflect my background and lived experience. Despite my efforts, I was not successful in finding that match. As I continued my search for a new physician, I realized I needed to expand my criteria beyond race alone. I began looking for a holistic provider-someone who would truly listen, understand, and treat me as a whole person. That search led me to Dr. Salisbury. From the moment I scheduled my new patient appointment, and especially throughout our conversation, I found her to be genuine, attentive, and deeply committed to understanding my concerns. She acknowledged the disparities Black women face and created space for me to be heard-something that cannot be taken for granted. For me, this experience reinforced an important truth: while representation matters, so does a provider's willingness to listen, respect, and deliver thoughtful, patient-centered care.
